Wayne Rooney: Draw is like a defeat to me



Wayne Rooney described England's draw in opposition to Russia as "feeling like a defeat" following Vasili Berezutsky's injury-time iequaliser.

Rooney used to be arguably England's stand-out player in a deeper, midfield position, before being taken off by using Roy Hodgson after 77 minutes.

At that stage, England had been 1-zero up thanks to Eric Dier's wonderful free-kick but Berezutsky's last-gasp header denied the Three Lions a win that will have been deserved on the balance of play.

Rooney stated: "[I am] disillusioned not to win it most likely. I notion we performed some particularly excellent stuff, created chances and controlled the game.

"We had our possibilities but that is soccer, you will have got to take them. We bought the intention and had the game in our arms. It is quite disappointing to not win however there were quite a lot of positives and if we play like that we are going to be k.

"the way we controlled the sport, for one of these younger squad, was excellent. We had a 15-minute period where we needed to settle down a bit on the begin of the 2nd half of but we obtained by means of that and got the goal. The terrible was once the intention we conceded. It is disappointing, it seems like a defeat at the minute but we must take it and move on.

"expectantly we will play a equivalent game in opposition to Wales and if we do we will be best."

Rooney felt the scan of enjoying in midfield used to be successful with Hodgson going for a front three of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana.

"It labored good, we complemented every other's recreation good. It'll have been my first game for England there but I've played there for Manchester United and it labored well for us and the staff."

As for his substitution, Rooney refused to question Hodgson's judgement, including: "that is the manager's decision, I respect it, it is what he will get paid to do, to make these decisions."
