Stoke city Goalkeeper Shay Given has introduced his retirement from worldwide football.
Given, who made 134 caps over a 20-year span for the Republic of eire, took to Twitter on Thursday to let the sector in on his selection to stop the sport on the global scene.
The forty-year-ancient thanked his country, teammates and lovers for their support for the period of the time he spent sporting eire's shirt.
Having represented eire on the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea, Given also stood between the sticks for the ecu Championships in Poland and Ukraine in 2012.
He used to be also a part of the squad for this year's Euros in France, but didn't function.
This isn't the first time that Given has retired from worldwide football. The stopper hung his gloves in 2012, however returned to the fold at supervisor Martin O'Neill's behest and played a giant position in his country's qualification for the Euros.
"it can be each boy's dream to play football for his university, his regional membership, and possibly in his wildest goals, his country," wrote Given in his farewell letter.
"i've been blessed that I used to be in a position to do this, from kickabouts within the outside at house in Co. Donegal with my brothers to taking part in for St. Columbas college Stranorlar, Lifford Celtic, after which to making my debut with the Republic of eire at age 19.
